PGA Posts Modified Event Schedule. The Masters Will Be Played in 2020

Golf became the first major sport this week to infuse hope into a global population desperate for good news. Three of the four majors, including the Masters, will be played in 2020. The PGA posted this announcement on April 6th, along with a modified schedule of events. Here are the new major championship dates for 2020:

  • PGA Championship: TPC Harding Park: August 3-9
  • US Open: Winged Foot: September 14-20
  • The Masters: Augusta National: November 9-15

The Open Championship, originally scheduled to be played in Kent on July 12-19, has been cancelled for 2020 based on recommendations from the British Government. The 149th Open will be played at Royal Saint George’s on July 11-18, 2021.

PGA Playoffs will Happen in August

The PGA Playoffs are scheduled to begin August 10th, immediately following the PGA Championship. All three qualifying FedEx Cup events will be played one week later than originally scheduled. The Wyndham Championship will be awarded after the conclusion of play on Monday, September 7th, Labor Day Weekend.

Both the PGA and LPGA have announced plans to resume regular play in early to mid-June. This is the first clear message from any professional sport that life will indeed go back to normal soon. Golfers in states with closed courses and millions of fans stuck at home can take some comfort in this. The NBA and NHL are discussing season cancellations. Golf will be played this year.

Petitions to Re-Open US Golf Courses

Last week, we profiled a Massachusetts Petition to their state governor to re-open golf courses. That petition currently has over 25,000 signatures on it. We also published an article on how to safely play golf during the Covid-19 crisis. If you know of any situations similar to Massachusetts or would like help obtaining signatures for a re-opening petition, share it with us. We can help.
